Outline of Research

The main research purpose of our laboratory is to establish the technology for devices that support optical-wave electronics. Efforts are directed toward research of new functional optoelectronic devices for optical communication, memory, signal processing and sensing. The devices are designed on the basis of theoretical analysis, and are fabricated and evaluated all in the laboratory. We have been engaged in research, particularly, on integrated optic(IO), fiber optic and nonlinear-optic devices. Research on integrated optics in this laboratory started in around 1975. Since then, waveguide-type devices and grating-type devices for waveguides have been installed. Materials that we are dealing with are glass, LiNbO3, EO polymers, silicon and AlGaAs.
